2:23am
Just fed Kate. Trying to go back to sleep, but I reach for my iPhone.
It used to bother me that I would postpone sleep in the middle of the night to check my phone. It’s still a bad habit though. I’m checking Email, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook due to the FOMO. I should be resting.
But sometimes this mindless exercise leads to something great - writing. I enjoy writing. I wish I wrote more. I seem to do my most productive writing during the middle of the night. Why?
Because it is the only time that there are zero distractions. My wife, dog, and three kids are asleep. There are no work obligations at 2 in the morning. No one is trying to get my attention. There is nothing to do, but sleep. I mean write.
2:38am. Good night.

forecast.io, from the creators of Dark Sky
Instantly replaces everything else weather-related on my phone.
At first glance, this is one badass weather app.

I’ve put a hard cap on my following of less than 50 people per platform. Yes, no matter the social platform, I follow less than 50 people.
Interesting idea. And it makes sense. I’ve been seriously looking at a “spring cleaning” of my Twitter feed, because I feel like some good stuff is getting buried.
Read Kirk’s post yesterday along with this post about turning off all your phone notifications:
I did something a few months ago that has made me immensely happier day to day. I turned off all of my notifications. No Twitter, email, nothing. I have to manually check all of my apps. This is so great. No more being interrupted at dinner because someone mentioned me in something I don’t care about.
I think that’s one of the issues Kirk’s idea resolves. Follow less, so quality increases, therefore notifications are messages you do care about. I’m giving it a try on twitter.
