Announcing Mallow 2.0

We just released a big update to our Mallow Tumblr theme - big enough to slap a 2.0 on it.

Mallow now offers two designs - the original and a new minimalist design. You can even customize each design and switch back and forth between your two creations with one click of the mouse.

We also added the Tumblr reblog and like buttons, support for panorama posts and Tumblr’s native twitter integration.

Last, but not least, Mallow enables you to display the latest posts from any of Tumblr’s featured tags. Check it out the #fashion tag on our preview blog or the #music tag on the official Tumblr music blog.

Mallow is avaiable in the premium theme garden for $49.

Anyone in need of a new theme? I know of a pretty good one put together by some even better people.

Thanks to @timehop (again) I was reminded that we submitted our first Tumblr theme, 2 years ago today.

Great entrepreneurial piece by Gowalla co-founder Josh Williams:

Don’t get sucked into the gravity hole between you and your competition. Ruthlessly run your own path, not someone else’s.

We are still struggling with some clients who don’t see the value in optimizing their website for mobile. I plan to start sending them this article from Electric Pulp:

In a matter of a few days, we were able to take a large, active site built on a famously stubborn ecommerce platform and dramatically increase mobile usage. And the best part is that “mobile usage” refers to real people, people looking to buy boardshorts and backpacks.

First time using the new editor. Love it, especially for audio posts.

I can check and add the album art, track, artist, and album associated with the mp3 in one screen instead of having to wait and see whether this data existed (which was the case with the old editor) when uploading an audio track.

Tonight at the Jefferson Theater, Yo La Tengo will be taking the stage. They are touring in support of their new album, Fade, which was just released on the 15th of January. If ever a Yo La Tengo record “mattered” - musically, emotionally, even historically - this is that record. So don’t miss your chance to see them live; tickets are still available Here.

Pretty nice poster. Looking forward to the show tonight.

Tim McGraw on Tumblr

We were pretty excited to work on the brand new Tim McGraw tumblr site over the weekend. They asked us to design, customize, and implement their tumblr site based on one of our existing themes.

The launch of the Tim McGraw tumblr coincided with the announcement of Tim’s tour dates and a pretty cool promotion to go with it.

I’m a little excited about this. :)

Single A Spotlight: Spotify

It’s time for another blog spotlight. When we discovered that Spotify is using our own Single A theme for their Tumblr blog, we were all smiles. So last month, we reached out to Candice Katz, who runs the Spotify Tumblr blog.

1. What is your role at Spotify and how does Spotify use Tumblr (in comparison to your other blogs and social media outlets)?
I am the User Communications Manager for Spotify. Our goal is to engage with Spotify users on every outlet imaginable and Tumblr is an amazing platform for showcasing new products, highlighting partnerships, and breaking Spotify news.

2. What is your process/How do you go about determining the content that gets posted to your blog on Tumblr?
Most of the content that is posted on our blog or on FB or on Twitter goes on our Tumblr blog as well. We want to be everywhere our audience is engaging with Spotify and want to have the latest updates.

3. How did the Spotify-Tumblr audio post integration come about? Are there any other Spotify-Tumblr projects in the works?
We’ve always been big fans of Tumblr and the integration of the Spotify Play Button earlier this year was a natural extension of our relationship. There are no new projects to announce at this time but stay tuned.

4. Why did you decide to use the Single A theme for Spotify?
When trying out a number of theme options, the Single A theme shone out as a versatile and refined theme that enabled the content to be the star (for every kind of Tumblr post). In addition, the theme offers links to our other social properties (FB, YouTube, LinkedIn etc) and showcases recent tweets which helps to cross-promote all of our social efforts. We love to spotlight active Spotify users on our Tumblr and often ‘like’ their posts. We especially love how the theme neatly displays the Spotify Play Button within the “Posts we Like” section.

We thank Candice for her time and answers, and look forward to hearing more from the Spotify team on their Tumblr in the future!

View past blog spotlights.

Very cool to see Spotify using one of our Tumblr themes.

Introducing Bubuti.com: Where Music Has A Mission

We are proud to announce the launch of Bubuti.com, a website that enables charities to partner with musicians to build a collaborative campaign, a co-promotion of song(s) and cause. Like a virtual benefit concert on the world’s largest stage, the Internet, these charitable campaigns give music artists exposure, give charities much-needed support, and give supporters the gift of music.

We are excited to have Bubuti up and running before our trip to SXSW music this coming week.

Business Bullpen performed the following services on the Bubuti.com project:

  • Website Design
  • Website and eCommerce Development
  • Content Strategy
  • Copywriting
  • Social Media Consulting & Management

Very excited to head down to Austin in support of Bubuti this coming week!
